Post-Op Instructions: Dental Fillings
After Your Appointment
✅ Numbness: Your lips, tongue, and cheek may remain numb for 1–3 hours. Be careful not to bite or burn yourself while numb. Wait until the numbness fully wears off before eating.
✅ Sensitivity: It’s common to have temporary sensitivity to hot, cold, pressure, or sweets for a few days to a couple of weeks. This should gradually improve.
Eating & Drinking
-
- Once numbness is gone, you may eat and drink normally.
Oral Hygiene
-
- Brush and floss as usual, including around your new filling.
- Good home care will help your filling last. Proper oral hygiene is critical to the longevity of any dental restoration.
What to Expect
-
- Mild soreness in the gums around the tooth is normal.
- Your bite may feel slightly “different” at first. This usually settles as your mouth adjusts.
- The tooth could be sensitive for multiple weeks as it adjusts to having the new filling.
