Post-Op Instructions: Dental Fillings

After Your Appointment

Numbness: Your lips, tongue, and cheek may remain numb for 1–3 hours. Be careful not to bite or burn yourself while numb. Wait until the numbness fully wears off before eating.

Sensitivity: It’s common to have temporary sensitivity to hot, cold, pressure, or sweets for a few days to a couple of weeks. This should gradually improve.

Eating & Drinking

    • Once numbness is gone, you may eat and drink normally.

Oral Hygiene

    • Brush and floss as usual, including around your new filling.
    • Good home care will help your filling last. Proper oral hygiene is critical to the longevity of any dental restoration.

What to Expect

    • Mild soreness in the gums around the tooth is normal.
    • Your bite may feel slightly “different” at first. This usually settles as your mouth adjusts.
    • The tooth could be sensitive for multiple weeks as it adjusts to having the new filling.
