Teeth Grinding

“My significant other says they can hear me grinding my teeth at night.”

Bruxism is the medical term for grinding, clenching, or gnashing your teeth. Many people do it unconsciously during the day or while sleeping (called sleep bruxism).

Over time, this repeated pressure and friction can cause:

    • Worn or flattened teeth
    • Tooth sensitivity or fractures
    • Jaw pain or tightness
    • Headaches, especially in the morning
    • Damage to dental work such as fillings or crowns

Bruxism is often linked to stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, or an abnormal bite. Because it often happens at night, many patients don’t realize they have it until their dentist notices signs of tooth wear.

Treatment may include stress management, lifestyle changes, and wearing a custom night guard to protect your teeth while you sleep. Early detection and treatment are important to prevent long-term damage.
